UNIT ONE- EARLY AMERICAN LITERATURE

ELAALRL3 The student deepens understanding of literary works by relating them to their contemporary context or historical background, as well as to works from other time periods.

i think it means that we should be able to work with the past, present and future.

"While living I want to live well.I know I have to die sometime, but even if the heavens were to fall on me I want to do what is right.

There is only one God looking down on us all.We are all children of the one God.God is listening to me.The sun,the darkness, the winds, all are listening to what we now say..."

I think this is a great example because for me it means that you should do everything that you can while you are alive and always try to do whats right. I think that there is not really a difference because both paragraphs have almost the same meanings and they mean the same thing..

Read the excerpt from The Autobiography by Benjamin Franklin in the red American Literature book. Pay special attention to the efforts Franklin made to improve his life.
Give one example from The Autobiography of how Franklin is a good example of a rationalist. Make sure you explain why, and provide an example straight from the text.

declaration of independence- makes references to certain rights.
deism- a popular religious movement of the time with a body of ideas.
Industry: don't loose time, always be employed in something useful, and cut off all unnecessary actions.
Justice: Wrong none, by doing injuries or omitting the benefits that are your duty.
Moderation: Avoid extremes. Forebear resenting injuries so much as you think they deserve.
Tranquility: Be not disturbed at trifles, or at accidents common or unavoidable.

There is a couple differences between the Puritans and the Rationalist. The differences between Puritans and the Rationalists.i think that they are really different because a rationalist would believe that everything could be understood through science and puritans thought that this was like an insult to god because they believed that humans had nothing to do with reconstructing gods work.
